House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appointed GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) to the January 6 committee. Kinzinger released a statement on Sunday and confirmed his acceptance of the Democrat’s offer to sit on the investigatory panel.

The Illinois lawmaker was notably one of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump in his second trial. He has been a consistent critic of the 45th president.

Kinzinger has been the second Republican appointed by Pelosi to the panel as Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) also accepted the offer. This comes after House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) withdrew his five picks over Pelosi’s opposition to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.).

The committee has scheduled its first hearing for next week.
