“Look, I was one of the closest allies that President Trump had in Congress,” Johnson added. “He had a phenomenal first term. Those first two years, as you all know, we brought about the greatest economic numbers in the history of the world, not just the country, because his policies worked and I’m all in for President Trump.”

Johnson, a former constitutional lawyer who transitioned into politics, played a significant role in Trump’s impeachment defense team and actively participated in challenging the results of the 2020 election. Despite Rep. Jim Jordan initially receiving Trump’s endorsement for the role of speaker, Trump later urged members to support Johnson, who emerged as the leading candidate. Johnson ultimately secured the position with a 220-209 vote from the GOP conference.
Trump is currently running for a second term after his defeat to President Joe Biden in 2020. National polls indicate that Trump is the clear frontrunner in the GOP field, although the margin has been narrowing. Hypothetical general election matchups against Biden have shown a close race.
Other notable GOP candidates still in the presidential race include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Former South Carolina Governor and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson. Former Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) have dropped out of the race.
“I expect he’ll be our nominee,” Johnson confidently stated. “Yeah. And he’s gonna win it, and we have to make Biden a one-term president.”
