Somalis Are Love Children Of Dems’ Welfare, Immigration Policies

The article discusses widespread welfare fraud involving Somali immigrant communities in Minnesota, highlighting it as a negative consequence of Democratic policies on mass welfare distribution and immigration. Federal prosecutors uncovered over a billion dollars stolen through fake nonprofits that claimed to provide aid but delivered little or no service. The Times reported how the state’s generous safety net attracted immigrants from war-torn Somalia, whose cultural experiences wiht corruption allegedly made the fraud possible. Despite suspicions and warnings by state officials, fear of accusations of racism allowed the scams to continue. The author argues this situation exemplifies the problems of unchecked immigration and expansive welfare programs promoted by Democrats, contending that these policies enable criminal behavior and exploitation of the system.

If there was ever a perfect case study in just how destructive the Democrat Party’s top two policy priorities — mass welfare distribution and unchecked immigration from the Third World — are to America, it’s what continues to unfold in Minnesota.

Federal prosecutors have uncovered hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars stolen over the past five years by Somali descendants living throughout the state in pockets of immigrant-dense communities. The schemes led to more than $1 billion in theft of welfare money intended for the impoverished who are supposedly unable to feed and house themselves. The dollars instead were pocketed primarily by Somali scammers who ran fake nonprofits claiming to help the needy.

The story has all the problems Democrats swear don’t exist: rampant welfare fraud, criminal immigrants, and bogus accusations of bigotry. The New York Times, of all places, captured the enraging nature of the situation in an article last weekend. “The episode has raised broader questions for some residents about the sustainability of Minnesota’s Scandinavian-modeled system of robust safety net programs bankrolled by high taxes,” the paper wrote. “That system helped create an environment that drew immigrants to the state over many decades, including tens of thousands of Somali refugees after their country descended into civil war in the 1990s.”

Wait, you mean impoverished foreigners from a war-torn, wildly corrupted country will flock to a state with European-style welfare giveaways and ultimately abuse the system? You’re telling me for the first time.

In one of the schemes, according to the Times, the state government had projected it would send out a few million dollars per year in reimbursements to organizations providing services to individuals at risk of homelessness, only to end up dumping more than $100 million into the fraudulent operation, which allegedly provided no service at all. (Two of the eight people prosecuted in the matter pleaded guilty.)

Another fake nonprofit said it was providing free meals to the needy and seeking reimbursement from the government, only to, once again, allegedly provide nothing (or almost nothing) to anyone. Administrators suspected something foul was afoot, but they kept pushing money out the door after the Somalis threatened to publicly accuse them of racism.

“In 2020, Minnesota Department of Education officials who administered the program became overwhelmed by the number of applicants seeking to register new feeding sites and began raising questions about the plausibility of some invoices,” the Times reported. “Feeding Our Future, the nonprofit group that was the largest provider in the pandemic program, responded with a warning. In an email, the group told the state agency that failing to promptly approve new applicants from ‘minority-owned businesses’ would result in a lawsuit featuring accusations of racism that would be ‘sprawled across the news.’”

This is what happens when Democrats are allowed to run things. They import Third World cultures and turn everyday life into a giant scam. That’s not just my assessment. Ahmed Samatar, a professor at Macalester College who is of Somali descent, said the same thing. “Dr. Samatar said that Somali refugees who came to the United States after their country’s civil war were raised in a culture in which stealing from the country’s dysfunctional and corrupt government was widespread,” wrote the Times. “Minnesota, he said, proved susceptible to rampant fraud because it is ‘so tolerant, so open and so geared toward keeping an eye on the weak.’”

When Democrats swear not a single dollar can be cut from welfare programs and not a single immigrant should be deported, this is what they’re promoting.
