Social Security update: $4,555 direct payments coming in 15 days
The First Wave of December’s Social Security Payments
The anticipation is building for the first group of retired seniors who are about to receive December’s Social Security payments. In just over two weeks, on Wednesday, Dec. 13, millions of retirees born between the 1st and 10th of the month will be delighted to find their checks, worth up to $4,555 for those who retire at 70, in their mailboxes.
But don’t worry if you were born between the 11th and 31st of the month, your payment will be on its way soon too. The Social Security Administration sends out payments in three disbursements every month, and you’ll receive yours in one of two later payments.
Know Your Worth
Have you ever wondered how much your Social Security check is worth? Well, it all depends on certain factors. But don’t fret, the SSA has got you covered. You can use their handy calculator to get a personalized estimate of what you can expect each month.
For those who retire at 62, the youngest age to receive payments, the maximum monthly payment is up to $2,572. But if you hold out until 70, you could receive a whopping $4,555 per month. And if you retire at the full age of 67, you can still enjoy a maximum check of up to $3,627 per month.
Looking Ahead
Exciting news for the future! In 2024, monthly Social Security payments will rise by 3.2% as part of the program’s annual adjustments based on inflation. This increase will apply to all payments, including retirement and disability pay.
It’s important to note that regular retirement checks have a different distribution schedule compared to other payments from the SSA, such as disability insurance or Supplemental Security Income.
So, mark your calendars and get ready for that long-awaited Social Security payment. It’s just around the corner!
