Skittles’ ‘Black Trans Lives Matter’ packaging sparks social media frenzy.
Skittles Faces Backlash Over “Pride” Packaging
Skittles is facing intense criticism after its “Pride” packaging, featuring pro-trans statements, went viral on social media. The candy brand’s website showcases slogans like “Joy Is Resistance” and ”Black Trans Lives Matter,” as part of its partnership with GLAAD, a media monitoring organization that supports radical gender theory.
This year marked the fourth consecutive year that Skittles collaborated with GLAAD to support the LGBTQ+ community and amplify their stories. For every Skittles Pride pack sold, the company pledged to donate $1 to GLAAD, in their ongoing efforts to combat anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination through media.
Skittles also promoted a podcast called “Queery,” hosted by Cameron Esposito, which focuses on LGBTQ topics and activism. The candy brand teased a special Pride-themed miniseries of Queery, where they delve deeper into queer storytelling and the artists behind this year’s Skittles Pride Packs.

In 2020, Skittles temporarily abandoned its iconic rainbow packaging and released a black and white package to “give the rainbow back” to the LGBTQ community during Pride Month.
Conservatives have strongly criticized Skittles, accusing the candy brand of pushing a pro-trans agenda on children. Skittles is particularly popular among children and young adults, with over 75% of Gen Z adults holding a favorable impression of the brand, according to a Morning Consult survey.
“[Skittles] is trying to turn your kids into BLM & LGBTQ+ activists,” wrote the popular account Libs of TikTok. “Their packaging also features a drag queen. Skittles have gone completely woke.”
“WTH? Skittles is Now Marketing Woke Idiocy To Children On Their Candy Wrappers!” exclaimed another individual. “This isn’t an Adult Beverage, Like Bud Light They Warned us They Were Coming After Our Kids- Let’s Make Sure They Hear Our Response Loud and Clear On This One Skittles- And Share.”
Some have even speculated that Mars, Skittles’ parent company, will face a backlash similar to Bud Light’s maker, Anheuser-Busch, which experienced a significant loss in market value after partnering with trans activist Dylan Mulvaney.
