Washington Examiner’s Joe Concha rebuked Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) and other Democratic veterans for their “illegal” advocacy to disobey military orders, as they are unable to define any illegal orders from President Donald Trump.
Slotkin, along with Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Reps. Jason Crow (D-CO), Maggie Goodlander (D-NH), Chris Deluzio (D-PA), and Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), starred in a video encouraging U.S. service members to disobey unlawful orders, but didn’t specify what those orders are. Slotkin said Sunday she isn’t aware of any illegal orders given by Trump, but “there are some legal gymnastics” happening with Trump’s military strikes in the Caribbean.
Concha, a senior writer for the Washington Examiner, said Slotkin and Goodlander sounded “quite frankly, pathetic” in failing to specify illegal orders.
“You used the word, I’ll use it, this is 31 flavors of stupid! And by the way, what if a member of the military actually decided to take Slotkin’s advice and defy a direct order from their CO? They get dishonorably discharged, they get court martialed, and then they get thrown in prison, and these Democrats who called on these military members to do such a thing just get to walk away free and say, ‘Oh well, I’ll visit you in prison,’” Concha said on Fox News’s The Faulkner Focus, guest-hosted by John Roberts.
Concha also called for “accountability” on the Democrats featured in the video, and urged congressional Republicans to hold hearings and ask Slotkin and the others to specify what illegal orders the president is giving. He added that lawmakers trying to use the military as “political pawns” are now backfiring “crap-tastically.”
The Department of War said Monday it will conduct a “thorough review” of “serious allegations of misconduct” levied against Kelly, a retired Navy captain. The department reminded retired military service members that they remain subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice for applicable offenses, as well as one for active duty service members, noting they are legally obligated to obey lawful orders.
“The video made by the ‘Seditious Six’ was despicable, reckless, and false. Encouraging our warriors to ignore the orders of their Commanders undermines every aspect of ‘good order and discipline.’ Their foolish screed sows doubt and confusion, which only puts our warriors in danger,” War Secretary Pete Hegseth said.

Vice President JD Vance remarked on Slotkin not clarifying what illegal orders service members can disobey on X, saying it’s illegal for Congress lawmakers to advocate for disobeying orders “if the president hasn’t issued illegal orders.”
Last week, Trump created headlines when he suggested the Democrats in the video were enacting “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH.”
He has since backed off on this, saying in a new statement the lawmakers should be in jail “RIGHT NOW.”
