Gunfire breaks out at White Sox game.
Shooting Erupts at White Sox Game
Friday night’s White Sox baseball game at Guaranteed Rate Field took a terrifying turn when two women were injured in a shooting incident.
According to Chicago police, a 42-year-old woman was shot in the leg, while a 26-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to her abdomen. The 42-year-old is currently in fair condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center, while the 26-year-old refused medical attention.
The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities are unsure whether the shots were fired from inside or outside the ballpark. The incident occurred in Section 161 in left-center field.
The game, which ended in a 12-4 loss for the Chicago White Sox against Oakland, had an announced crowd of 21,906. Unfortunately, the postgame concert featuring Vanilla Ice, Rob Base, and Tone Loc was canceled due to technical issues.
“Upon receiving notification of this incident, CPD responded immediately and deployed additional resources while coordinating with White Sox security to maintain the safety of those who were in attendance or working at the game,” the police said in its statement. “At no time was it believed there was an active threat.”
Major League Baseball is in contact with the team and Chicago police but has not provided any further details.
The White Sox organization confirmed that the incident did not involve any altercation. They expressed their concern for the victims and wished them a speedy recovery.
