San Francisco Pier crash: Ship with 4,000 onboard.

A Cruise Ship Adventure: Uncertainty and Repairs

A thrilling cruise ship experience took an unexpected turn when the Ruby Princess collided with a pier in San Francisco. With over 3,000 passengers and 1,000 crew members on board, the ship was scheduled to depart on Sunday. However, there is some uncertainty surrounding its departure.

“I see a big hole in the boat that’s supposed to leave tomorrow at four,” passenger Shannon Puuohau said on Saturday, according to KTVU-TV in Oakland.

“I’m a little nervous. I didn’t realize what it looks like. I thought it was finished, and we were ready to go.”

According to CNN, the Ruby Princess made unexpected contact with the dock at Pier 27 in San Francisco. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and both guests and crew members were never in danger.

Passenger Paul Zasso described the moment of impact, saying, “I noticed we were spinning pretty quick, to be that close to the dock. I was mid-ship, portside, looked out the window, and we smacked into the dock.”

Passenger Dilemma: To Stay or To Go?

The Ruby Princess was set to begin its next trip immediately after completing a 10-day cruise to Alaska. However, due to ongoing repairs, the departure has been delayed.

Passengers have been presented with options. They can receive a full refund and a 50% discount on their next cruise, or they can embark on a modified seven-day cruise with a 75% refund and a 75% discount on their next trip.

Shirley Bartel has decided to proceed with her trip, stating, “Why not? We paid for this one, and now we’re going to get paid for the next one. I have full faith we’ll be safe.”

However, for others, the wait is becoming tiresome. Passenger Anita Lawhon expressed the growing restlessness among passengers, saying, “It’s only been a day, so everyone’s okay at this point, but I think people are getting antsy and ready to go.”

The Coast Guard is closely monitoring the repairs to ensure the vessel’s safety. Passenger Dan Faltings, though, remains skeptical, stating, “They do say work is being done, but I am standing above the hole. I can’t see the hole, but I do know nothing is going on with it. I feel like if we’re still here tomorrow, I’m going to be at guest services asking for my money back and get off this boat.”

Despite the uncertainty, this cruise ship adventure continues to captivate passengers and onlookers alike.
