‘She’s Peacocking’: Source Claims Whoopi Goldberg Is ‘Untouchable’ After Ratings Drop On ‘The View’ During Her Suspension

While you might expect “The View” moderator Whoopi Goldberg to be chastened or embarrassed for getting suspended for two weeks, a source told the New York Post that the opposite is true. They’re claiming the 66-year-old comedian is feeling better than ever now because ratings for the daytime talk show dropped in her absence.

According to the Post, they were told that Goldberg, “returned to work with a big grin on her face” due to the ratings drop that occurred during the two weeks she was not on the show. “She’s strutting around the place,” the insider told the Post. “She’s peacocking.”

The publication reported that during the full week Goldberg was not allowed on “The View,” the panel-style talk show dropped 283,000 viewers, resulting in a season-low for total viewers in key demographics.

The comedian’s return resulted in a viewership boost. During the moderator’s first week back, “The View” added 2.3 million viewers, which the Post noted was the biggest week-to-week gain for any daytime broadcast series. Numbers are still below pre-suspension numbers, but the return of Goldberg to her hosting seat was enough to draw big gains plus inflate the ego of the host who seemed to have inspired it all.

“With Whoopi out from the show on suspension, the ratings dropped to the lowest in total viewers and key demos of the season,” the insider continued. “At the end of the day, TV is a business. The only thing that really matters is ratings.”

“Whoopi is untouchable,” they concluded. “She’s the queen bee.”

This all comes after Goldberg was allegedly “livid” and threatening to “quit” because she was suspended in the first place. The comedian came under fire for saying the Holocaust was “not about race,” because she said that the Nazis and the Jews were both white. She claimed that “man’s inhumanity to man” was the real cause of what happened.

At first, Goldberg tweeted an apology, but then she seemed to double down on her statements during an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s show. Eventually, ABC faced so much mounting pressure from the public that they decided to suspend the host.

“Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments. While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends and communities,” ABC News president Kim Godwin said in a statement.

The suspension came as a surprise, but certain critics claim it didn’t go far enough as other show hosts have been permanently fired for saying less. Notably, Sharon Osbourne was canned from “The Talk” after defending her friend, Piers Morgan, and saying he wasn’t a racist for criticizing Meghan Markle.

But now that Whoopi’s suspension proved the ratings depend on her, it will take even more egregious comments for her to be fired for good.
