“When anything that impacts all of your employees is merely a checkbox item for the CEO, it’s highly likely that it won’t work well, and you’ll have employees who feel uncomfortable for various reasons,” Cuban explained. “This, in turn, breeds resentment towards DEI policies and training, making it even more challenging for managers to implement them. Companies that excel in DEI, however, are the ones that thrive and succeed.”
Cuban is no stranger to speaking his mind on divisive topics. In 2023, he boldly stated that it is “good business” for companies to engage in the political sphere, as consumers prefer to support companies that genuinely care about their customers.
While there has been speculation about Cuban running for public office in 2024, he has confirmed to the Washington Examiner that he has no plans to do so. Instead, he is focusing on his online pharmacy company, Cost Plus Drugs, after making significant changes in his life, including his departure from Shark Tank and reports of selling a majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks.
Musk’s denouncement of DEI followed billionaire Bill Ackman’s argument that DEI is ”racist” and that advocating for diversity in the workforce should not automatically translate to giving someone an unfit leadership role.
