Tragedy struck in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, as several victims fell victim to a horrific shooting. Local officials are labeling it a “racially motivated” hate crime.
The assailant, a white male reportedly in his early 20s, unleashed his fury at a Dollar General store, claiming the lives of at least three innocent individuals before taking his own.
Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters revealed that the suspect deliberately targeted black people during this senseless act of violence.
“I had the opportunity to speak with Sheriff T.K. Waters in Jacksonville about the horrific shooting,” shared Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in a video statement. “Based on the manifesto discovered from the scumbag responsible, this shooting was racially motivated.”
According to reports, the suspect penned “several manifestos” and distributed them to his parents and the media.
“He specifically chose his victims based on their race, and that is absolutely unacceptable,” DeSantis expressed. “Rather than facing the consequences and taking responsibility for his actions, this individual chose to end his own life.”
“He took the coward’s way out,” DeSantis continued. “We vehemently condemn this act and stand in solidarity with Sheriff Waters and the city of Jacksonville. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the victims and their families, who have suffered greatly due to this despicable act.”
