Sens. Schumer and Manchin sign secret deal

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) reportedly made an agreement with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) for a smaller reconciliation infrastructure package. The agreement signed with the West Virginia senator stated debates on the shrunken bill would begin no earlier than Friday.
Although the agreement was signed in the summer, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was not notified of its existence until this week. Manchin verbally stated he would not support any infrastructure bill over $1.5 trillion in a statement released on Thursday.
Manchin went on to express, “my top line has been $1.5 (trillion) because I believe in my heart that what we can do and what the needs we have right now and what we can afford to do, without changing basically our whole society to an entitlement mentality.”

The bipartisan infrastructure bill has yet to pass in the House.
