Republican Senator Backs Impeachment Inquiry into President Biden
Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, has thrown his support behind House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) decision to launch an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. Barrasso believes that the corruption surrounding the Biden family needs to be untangled.
In an interview with Punchbowl News, Barrasso expressed his belief that it is crucial for the House to unravel the web of corruption emanating from the Biden administration, particularly concerning the Biden family. He also revealed that he has invited House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) and House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) to a weekly Steering Committee meeting to provide updates on the impeachment inquiry.
Meanwhile, McCarthy’s announcement comes as a recent poll conducted by The Wall Street Journal shows that 80% of Republican voters support Congress impeaching President Biden.
Senate Republicans Differ on Impeachment Inquiry
While Barrasso supports the impeachment inquiry, Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-SD) has distanced himself from the proceedings, arguing that the Senate should focus on other priorities. Thune believes that conducting an impeachment trial while trying to pass government funding for the upcoming fiscal year would not be productive.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who previously expressed concerns about impeaching Biden, declined to comment extensively on the matter, stating that McCarthy does not require his advice.
Similarly, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) suggested that instead of pursuing an impeachment inquiry, the House should prioritize other issues that have a higher likelihood of success.
McCarthy’s Allegations Against President Biden
In a letter to Republican members, McCarthy outlined the House’s investigation findings, which allege that President Biden lied to the American people about his knowledge of his family’s foreign business dealings. The letter includes several damning claims:
– Eyewitness testimony reveals that President Biden had multiple interactions with his son’s business partners, and foreign nationals sent Hunter Biden millions of dollars and bought him a Porsche after meeting with the President.
– Bank records indicate that nearly $20 million in payments were directed to Biden family members and associates through various shell companies, with over 150 transactions flagged as suspicious activity by U.S. banks.
– A trusted FBI informant provided information about alleged bribes to the Biden family.
– Evidence suggests that Biden used his official office to coordinate with Hunter Biden’s business partner regarding Hunter’s role in a Ukrainian energy company called Burisma.
