Several Democrats vying for Senate seats this midterm have expressed their desire to drop the filibuster. Recent reports have warned Democrat hopefuls in Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin have all endorsed doing away with the long-standing legislative rule.

In Ohio, Congressman Tim Ryan (D) suggested the Senate is “broken” in his bid for outgoing Sen. Rob Portman’s (R) seat. Meanwhile in Florida, Congresswoman Val Demings (D) is looking to unseat Marco Rubio (R) and has vocally supported ending the filibuster.

Reports have said there are a number of Democrat senators to keep an eye on with regards to the filibuster, including Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) who recently said they were open to reforming the rule. However, Manchin has been a long-time defender of the filibuster and has shown little sign of shifting views in the past.
