Sen. Markwayne Mullin Urges Nikki Haley to Face Reality and Drop Out
In a recent appearance on State of the Union Sunday, Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) had some strong words for 2024 Republican hopeful Nikki Haley. As the Super Tuesday elections loomed, with Oklahoma participating, Mullin called on Haley to start “being realistic” and withdraw from the race.
Haley, despite losing every Republican primary thus far, has chosen to continue her campaign for the GOP nomination against Donald Trump. However, Mullin believes she is not facing the facts. “I don’t think she’s actually being realistic and what she’s trying to get done here. She hasn’t won a state,” Mullin stated. “However, at some point, you got to call it. I thought she would call it after she lost her own state in a horrible fashion. Now that we go into Super Tuesday, there’s not a chance she’s going to win a single state.”
Haley argues that there are voters who are vehemently against Trump and will not be swayed, instead choosing to vote for President Joe Biden. She points to the fact that 40% of South Carolina voters reported their vote was simply against Trump. However, Mullin dismisses this as a “fringe” group within the party.
“Anybody can put their name on any ballot when it’s one-on-one and get 30% of the vote,” Mullin scoffed.
It’s worth noting that Trump had Mullin’s endorsement long before Haley became his sole opposing candidate. Since then, Trump has gained the support of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), Vivek Ramaswamy, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC). On the other hand, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson is the only ex-candidate to endorse Haley, while former Gov. Chris Christie and former Vice President Mike Pence have yet to issue any endorsements after dropping out.
