Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) announced he will not run for reelection in 2022. The Missouri senator released a video on Monday, revealing his decision and thanking residents of the state for the opportunity to serve them.

Blunt, who was first elected to Congress in 1996 and later the upper chamber in 2010, touted his work to advance health research regarding diseases like Alzheimer’s and cancer. He also highlighted his record of winning several elections in the state over the course of his political career.

“In every job Missourians have allowed me to have, I’ve tried to do my best, in almost 12,000 votes in the Congress, I’m sure I wasn’t right every time, but you really make that decision based on the information you have at the time,” Blunt stated. “After 14 General Election victories, three to county office, seven to the United States House of Representatives and four statewide elections, I won’t be a candidate for reelection for the United States Senate next year.”

Blunt is the fifth GOP senator to announce he is not running for reelection in 2022.
