Security guard claims he was fired for requesting fans to take a photo of him with Taylor Swift during a concert.
A security guard who became an internet sensation for his impromptu performance of a Taylor Swift song during one of her concerts has revealed that he was fired for a simple request: asking fans to take his photo with the star.
Calvin Denker, employed by the security company BEST, gained widespread attention on TikTok when a fan recorded him singing along to “Cruel Summer” at one of Swift’s Minneapolis shows in June, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Denker later posted a reaction video where he explained that he had handed out his phone number to fans in the front row, asking them to capture a photo of him with Swift and send it to him. He admitted that one of the reasons he took the job was to fulfill his goal of seeing Swift perform for free.

“After the first night, I realized how close Taylor was getting to me, so I really wanted to capture the moment in a photo,” Denker shared. “I handed out these little pieces of paper that stated I wasn’t allowed to have my phone out, but if Taylor Swift came right behind me, please take a photo of us and text it to my number.”
Denker revealed on social media that this action led to his termination.
“Long story short, I was fired for it,” Denker explained in a video update. “My former security company claimed they had a rule against taking photos with any performers. The main issue they had was with my follow-up video where I mentioned distributing pieces of paper to request any photos that I managed to be in.”
“Above all else, I made sure that Taylor Swift was safe and that all the fans had a great time. I was simply doing my job.”
“The HR representative who called me couldn’t clearly explain what I did wrong,” Denker added.
Since the incident, Denker has received job offers from other security companies.
“I have been approached by several other security companies since the TikTok video,” Denker told The Messenger. “I might consider attending a job interview or two, but this security gig was always meant to be my fun job during my free time, as I am a full-time software engineer.”
