Second American hostage confirmed dead, one week after husband’s death in Hamas captivity
Israeli American Woman Dies as Second American Hostage Taken by Hamas
Judi Weinstein Haggai, a 70-year-old Israeli American woman, tragically became the second confirmed American taken hostage by Hamas to lose her life during the October 7 terrorist attack on Israel. Her husband Gadi, 73, was the first American reported dead in Hamas captivity last week.
The morning of the attack, Judi and Gadi were out for a walk when Hamas launched their assault on Israel. The couple was taken hostage from Kibbutz Nir Oz after being shot by the terrorists. Tragically, Judi was murdered during the attack, and her body is currently being held in Gaza by the terrorists, as reported by the Times of Israel.
“She was a poet and an entrepreneur who loved to create and was dedicated to working for peace and friendship,” Kibbutz Nir Oz said in a statement.
Judi and Gadi, who moved to Israel from the U.S. around 30 years ago, leave behind their children living in Colorado, Singapore, and Israel, according to Fox News. Judi, an English teacher specializing in children with special needs, was also known for using meditation techniques to help children cope with anxiety caused by years of rocket fire near the Gaza border.
On the day of the attack, Judi and Gadi sought refuge in a field. Judi managed to contact a member of the kibbutz, informing them that she and her husband had been shot – Judi in the arm and Gadi in the head – and desperately needed help. Unfortunately, an ambulance dispatched to their location was attacked and never reached them. Since then, the couple had been missing and presumed captive in Gaza, according to the New York Post.
Currently, six other Americans are believed to be held hostage by Hamas in Gaza. As Israel continues its operation to dismantle the terrorist group, Omer Neutra, Itay Chen, Sagui Dekel-Chen, Edan Alexander, Hersh Goldberg Polin, and Keith Samuel Siegel remain captive.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that he attempted to provide life-saving medicine to the hostages trapped in Gaza through the Red Cross, but his offer was refused. Netanyahu emphasized that every effort is being made to bring all the hostages home, and he vowed to continue until the end.

It is crucial for the international community to condemn such acts of terrorism and support efforts to bring those responsible to justice. The Israeli government, along with its allies, must work together to ensure the safety and security of its citizens and take appropriate measures to prevent future attacks.
Furthermore, this tragedy should serve as a wake-up call to the world, urging governments and organizations to redouble their efforts in promoting peace and preventing violence.
