San Francisco thieves target Walgreens thrice on CNN.
Shoplifters Caught on Camera in San Francisco
San Francisco shoplifters were caught red-handed on three separate occasions at a local Walgreens drugstore, all while CNN cameras were rolling. The shocking incidents shed light on the growing shoplifting crisis in the city.
During her report on the situation, CNN’s Kyung Lah witnessed a man casually walking out of the store in the Richmond neighborhood with unpaid items in his hands. Curious, she approached a nearby store employee and asked, “Did that guy pay?” To her surprise, the employee confirmed that he had not.
But that was not the end of it. Lah continued to observe the store and spotted two more shoplifters in action during her short 30-minute stay. The brazenness of these thefts is truly alarming.
San Francisco Stores Take Drastic Measures
In response to the rampant shoplifting, stores across San Francisco have resorted to extreme measures to protect their merchandise. Frozen food cooler sections are now chained up, and valuable items are placed behind locked plexiglass. Store staff are even required to assist customers in accessing the items they wish to purchase.
One Twitter user shared the shocking reality, stating, “Workers said normally shoplifters clean out all the pizza and ice cream every night. They’re usually hit 20 times a day. The whole store is virtually locked up.”
San Francisco resident Richie Greenberg echoed these concerns, describing the city as “kind of like a police state.” The situation has become dire, and it’s difficult to find words to adequately express the frustration and fear experienced by residents.
San Francisco’s Retail Crisis
Since the beginning of 2023, San Francisco has been plagued by what can only be described as a wave of retail closures. The downtown area has been hit the hardest, with rising crime rates, inflation, supply chain issues, and labor shortages all contributing to the decline.
This crisis demands immediate attention and action. The safety and well-being of both businesses and residents are at stake. It’s time for San Francisco to come together and find effective solutions to combat this alarming trend.
