San Francisco probes possible permit breach regarding Elon Musk’s ‘X’ logo on HQ.
The City of San Francisco Investigates Violation Over Giant “X” Sign on Twitter Headquarters
The city of San Francisco is currently investigating a potential violation regarding a massive “X” sign that has been placed on the headquarters of the popular social media company, formerly known as Twitter.
The installation of this new sign is part of Elon Musk’s rebranding process, as he aims to simplify the platform’s name to just “X.” However, according to Patrick Hannan, spokesperson for the Department of Building Inspection, any alterations to the letters or symbols on a building require a permit to ensure consistency with the building’s historic nature.
City Initiates Complaint and Investigation
Hannan stated, “Planning review and approval is also necessary for the installation of this sign. The city is opening a complaint and initiating an investigation.”
This investigation was prompted after city police intervened and prevented workers from removing the building’s iconic bird logo. The police cited the workers’ failure to tape-off the sidewalk, which could have potentially endangered pedestrians from falling objects.
Despite the trouble in San Francisco, Elon Musk did not hesitate to share images of the new “X” logo. He even posted several videos showcasing the building’s striking new sign over the weekend. Musk also made it clear that he intends to keep the social media platform’s headquarters in San Francisco, despite receiving tempting offers to relocate elsewhere.
Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of “X,” expressed her excitement about the platform’s rebranding in a statement on July 23. She described it as “the future state of unlimited interactivity,” emphasizing that Twitter had already revolutionized communication and that “X” would take it even further, transforming the global town square.
“X is the future state of unlimited interactivity — centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking — creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities,” Yaccarino’s statement read. “Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.”
