Salena Zito says strike on drug vessel is ‘what we voted for’
This article from the Washington Examiner features senior columnist Salena zito discussing the U.S. government’s recent “kinetic strike” against a venezuelan drug vessel linked to the Tren de Aragua gang. The strike, ordered by President Donald Trump, resulted in the deaths of 11 gang members allegedly transporting drugs. On The Hugh Hewitt Show, Zito expressed that American voters largely support such strong actions in the war on drugs, viewing illicit drugs-including fentanyl-as a destructive force harming families and communities. The article also notes Mexico’s commitment to cooperating with the U.S. State Department to combat drug cartels through enhanced security and law enforcement collaboration. Additionally, it highlights Trump’s ongoing tough stance on drugs, including the signing of the HALT Fentanyl Act, which permanently classifies fentanyl analogs as Schedule I substances.
Salena Zito says strike on drug vessel is ‘what we voted for’
Washington Examiner Senior Columnist Salena Zito predicted that Americans approve of President Donald Trump’s most recent action in the war on drugs.
Zito appeared on The Hugh Hewitt Show on Wednesday, hours after Trump announced that the U.S. conducted a “kinetic strike” against a Venezuelan vessel that killed 11 Tren de Aragua gang members while they were allegedly transporting drugs.
“Salena, today the president was in the Oval talking about blowing up the drug boat from Venezuela,” Hewitt said. “What did you think about that action?”
“Based on talking to voters, what I heard was: ‘This is what we voted for,’” Zito said.
“These drugs are a weapon of mass destruction. They wipe out families. They wipe out communities. They wipe out towns,” Zito said. “This fentanyl and illegal drug trade has been a hallmark of what President Trump wanted to accomplish.”
Since the strike, Mexico announced that it will cooperate with the State Department to combat drug cartels.

“The aim is to work together to dismantle transnational organized crime through enhanced cooperation between our respective national security and law enforcement institutions, and judicial authorities,” a State Department release said.
Trump has long campaigned on taking strict action against illicit drugs. Earlier this summer, Trump signed the HALT Fentanyl Act, which permanently scheduled fentanyl-related substances, known as fentanyl analogs, as Schedule I drugs under the Controlled Substances Act.
