Russia’s car sales surge by 151.8% YoY in June – Autostat.

Car Sales in Russia Soar by 151.8% in June

In a remarkable rebound from the car industry slump in 2022, car sales in Russia have surged by 151.8% year-on-year in June, according to analytical agency Autostat. This positive growth comes after Russia’s auto industry suffered heavily due to Western sanctions over the conflict in Ukraine, which disrupted investment, equipment, and parts supply from overseas.

The car sales in Russia experienced a drastic decline of 59% last year, leading to the withdrawal of many foreign automakers from the Russian market. However, the situation has now taken a positive turn. Autostat, citing data from its partner consulting company PPK, reported that 82,407 vehicles were sold in June, a significant increase from 72,171 in May and a remarkable improvement compared to the mere 32,731 sold in June 2022.

Despite the challenges faced, Russia’s own car manufacturer, Lada, has managed to maintain its position as the leading brand in the domestic market. In fact, Lada has even expanded its market share for the first half of the year, growing from 20.8% in 2022 to an impressive 33.5% in June.

Avtovaz, the maker of Lada, reported a staggering four-fold increase in June sales compared to the previous year. Additionally, Chinese automakers, including Haval, Chery, and Geely, have filled the void left by departing Western firms, with six of the top 10 brands by market share now being Chinese.

These positive developments in the Russian car market indicate a promising recovery and a renewed sense of optimism for the industry.
