Russia and Ukraine Agree to Prisoner Swap

Release of Fighters and Soldiers

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian officials have successfully secured the release of‍ 230 ‍fighters. In⁢ return, Russian state media reports that nearly 250 Russian soldiers will be freed.

A Moment of Gratitude

Zelensky expressed his gratitude on social media, stating, “Today, 213 soldiers and sergeants, 11 officers, and⁣ 6 civilians⁢ returned home. ⁣I am grateful to everyone ⁢who achieved ⁣this result. We remember⁢ each and every one of our people. And we must return all of them.”

The Russian​ Ministry⁣ of Defense also acknowledged the prisoner⁤ swap, ​stating, “On January ‌3, 2024, as a result of a complicated negotiation process, 248 Russian servicemen were returned from the territory controlled by the Kiev regime. The return of the Russian⁣ servicemen from captivity was made possible thanks to ‍the humanitarian mediation of the United ​Arab Emirates.”

Continued Efforts ‍for Peace

This exchange of prisoners is‍ not the first between Russia and Ukraine. As the war has progressed, both sides have ‍agreed ‍to various swaps.
