Russell Brand granted bail after new sexual assault charges
Russell Brand was granted bail after the U.K. Crown Prosecution Service announced two new charges – one count of rape and one count of sexual assault – linked to allegations by two women from 2009. Brand appeared by video from his Florida home, confirming only his name and date of birth and not entering a plea.
These new charges follow earlier March charges that included one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault for alleged incidents between 1999 and 2005; Brand pleaded not guilty in May and a trial is scheduled for June. Altogether he faces allegations from six women as part of a Metropolitan Police examination that began in 2023 after media inquiries. Brand has publicly denied the accusations in a social-media video, and has recently cultivated a conservative following after discussing a religious conversion. His next court appearance is a plea hearing at Southwark Crown Court on Feb. 17.
Russell Brand granted bail following two new sexual assault charges
Russel Brand was granted bail after new allegations of sexual assault charges broke against the actor last month.
Brand appeared in court via video link from his Florida home and only spoke during the hearing to confirm his name and date of birth. The new charges are one count of rape and one count of sexual assault. He did not enter a plea during the short court appearance.
The United Kingdom’s Crown Prosecution Service announced the additional charges against Brand last month, stemming from different police reports involving two women in 2009. Brand was in court Tuesday for these new charges.
The new charges come after Brand was charged in March with one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault over crimes he allegedly committed between 1999 and 2005.
He pleaded not guilty to the original charges in May and the trial is scheduled to begin in June.
Brand is facing criminal allegations of sex crimes against six women in total.
RUSSELL BRAND CHARGED WITH RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IN UNITED KINGDOM
The charges are part of a wider Metropolitan Police investigation that began in 2023 following inquiries from the Sunday Times and Channel 4.
In a video Brand posted to social media on April 4, 2025, the first time he was charged, the actor denied all wrongdoing and said the law has become a “weapon” to be used against people who will not “tolerate” corruption.
Brand said in the video that he was a “fool” before he found religion.
“I was a drug addict, a sex addict, and an imbecile but what I never was was a rapist,” he said in the video. “I’ve never engaged in non-consensual activity and I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”
The comedian has been growing a following within the conservative movement in recent years, crediting his transformation to moving away from fame and toward religion.
CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN PODCASTER WARS CONTINUE AT TURNING POINT’S AMERICA FEST
Brand appeared at Turning Point USA’s America Fest last month, where he delivered remarks about how his life has been “revolutionarily” changed by the “power of Christ, Jesus.”
“I know about carnality, I’ve got to tell you. I lived a dumb, hedonic, Hollywood life,” he said at America Fest. “To go from a Hollywood headiness to a Bible-believing Christian is a big journey, but we’ve got a lot of big journeys ahead of us.”
Brand’s next court appearance will be at a plea hearing at London’s Southwark Crown Court on Feb. 17.
