Rubio says US will revoke visas of those who celebrated Charlie Kirk’s assassination

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the U.S. will start revoking visas of people who celebrated the assassination of Turning Point founder and conservative activist Charlie Kirk

Rubio announced the decision in a social media post on his X account late Monday night.

“America will not host foreigners who celebrate the death of our fellow citizens,” read Rubio’s post. “Visa revocations are under way [sic]. If you are here on a visa and cheering on the public assassination of a political figure, prepare to be deported. You are not welcome in this country.”

OPINION: CHARLIE KIRK WAS MURDERED FOR WINNING THE WAR OF PUBLIC PERSUASION

Kirk was assassinated on Sept. 10 at Utah Valley State University during a stop on his organization’s “The America Comeback Tour.” Tyler Robinson is the suspected gunman who killed the Turning Point USA founder. He was arrested on Sept. 11 after a search that lasted 33 hours.

Rubio’s post was accompanied by a video of an interview with Fox News’ Gillian Turner in which the secretary of state explained the rationale behind revoking visas of people who celebrate the murder of American political figures.

“We are not in the business of inviting people to visit our country who are going to be involved in negative and destructive behavior,” Rubio said. “If we invite someone to visit the United States of America, as a student, as a tourist, as whatever … the standard they should be held to is very high.”

OPINION: CHARLIE KIRK’S HONORABLE LEGACY OF CIVIL DISCOURSE

“We shouldn’t be bringing people into this country, we should not be giving visas to people that come to the United States and do things like celebrate the murder, the execution, the assassination of a political figure,” Rubio added. “And if they’re already here, we should be revoking their visa.”
