Roseanne Barr documentary details career’s cancel culture battle: ’Not going to let them win’

Roseanne Barr has a documentary of her life, focusing on her journey from comedian to being an ally of President Donald Trump.

The documentary, set to release on DVD and via online streaming on June 9, is titled Roseanne Barr is America. The project is directed by Joel Gilbert, who was also behind documentaries that posited Michelle Obama would run for president in 2024 and an alleged hoax surrounding the death of teenager Trayvon Martin.

“In Roseanne Barr is America, the still hilarious and highly opinionated Roseanne recounts the untold story of her unusual upbringing and her extraordinarily successful career in comedy and television,” the website for the documentary reads. “A master storyteller, Roseanne exposes the sinister political forces and the twisted ‘cancel culture’ that must be overcome for America to survive as a free nation. An impassioned lover of America, Roseanne explains in her uniquely entertaining way her views on today’s pressing issues and the path forward. As viewers will quickly come to understand, Roseanne Barr is America!”

A trailer of the film includes clips of Barr performing stand-up comedy, and clips of her show Roseanne, which started in 1988 and was revived in 2018. Throughout the preview, Barr is singing the national anthem.

“They want to strip us of our constitutional Republic and the American dream,” Barr says in the preview. “I’m not going to let them, to my last breath, I’m not going to let them win.”

The comedian is also quoted regarding the incident that led to the revival of Roseanne being canceled. Barr explained that she saw a side-by-side photo of former Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and Helena Bonham Carter in chimpanzee makeup as her character for Planet of the Apes. According to Barr, they both “looked like two peas in a pod I assumed at the time [Jarrett] was white.” However, with Jarrett’s black background, Barr’s tweet suggesting she looked like the Planet of the Apes character was taken to be racial in nature.

“They had their smoking gun they thought to prove that all Trump voters are racist,” Barr said.

Roseanne would go on to be spun off by ABC as The Conners, with the same cast minus Barr. It ran from 2018 with seven seasons. The final episode aired this past April.
