Ron Wyden accused of ‘gaslighting’ for only sharing videos of ICE protest during the day

The article reports on criticism directed at Senator Ron wyden (D-OR) for posting videos on X (formerly Twitter) showing daytime protests against Immigration and Customs enforcement (ICE) in Portland, Oregon. Wyden’s posts highlighted peaceful daytime demonstrations and called for former President Donald Trump to stay out of Oregon. However, critics accuse Wyden of “gaslighting” by ignoring incidents at night, where some protesters have engaged in more aggressive or violent behavior. A White House official mentioned ongoing gatherings near an ICE facility, including threats like a guillotine display by antifa militants. President Trump had ordered the National Guard to Portland due to these escalating protests, though Oregon’s governor and Portland’s mayor argued that no additional law enforcement was necessary.Social media users shared nighttime footage to challenge Wyden’s portrayal, suggesting he selectively presented the situation. Some critics also questioned Wyden’s connection to Oregon, and others labeled his portrayal propaganda. The washington Examiner sought comment from Wyden’s office.

Ron Wyden accused of ‘gaslighting’ for only sharing videos of ICE protest during the day

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) became the ire of X users as he shared videos of the ongoing protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Portland, Oregon, during the day.

“Today Oregon’s message to Donald Trump was loud and clear: stay out,” Wyden wrote on X late Sunday under a video compilation of protesters gathered at a park during the day.

However, a White House official noted to the Washington Examiner that protestors had been “congregating” outside an ICE field office in South Portland since June. Earlier this month, the official said, “antifa militants outside of the facility rolled out a guillotine,” in a threatening gesture.

President Donald Trump ordered the National Guard to Portland due to the heightened presence of protesters against ICE. However, Gov. Tina Kotek (D-OR) and Portland Mayor Keith Wilson denied there was a need for additional law enforcement.

Users online pulled more footage from the protests after the sun went down to dispute Wyden’s post, capturing only peaceful protesters.

“[E]vidently Mr. Wyden has been paid to look the other way or he is just completely brainwashed to terrorism!” one user wrote under a post of various fires burning in the streets of Portland.

“Wyden doesn’t even live in Oregon. Who’s state?” Oregon Rep. Dwayne Yunker (R) wrote on X.

“Again- this senator continues to post daytime highlight reels and is willingly gaslighting the public on what has been happening at night for some time now,” Washington Examiner Senior Writer Joe Concha wrote.

“This is propaganda,” another user wrote.

The Washington Examiner has reached out to Wyden’s office for comment.
