Road risque: These personalized license plate ideas were rejected in one state

Drivers get creative when getting a personalized license plate for their vehicle. However, some drivers in Nevada have had their applications rejected for being too risqué for the road. Hundreds of personalized license plate applications are deemed inappropriate each year due to various reasons such as drug references, gang references, vulgarity, and law enforcement confusion.

One rejected application was for “BUD19,” which the driver said was representative of their dog’s name and year of birth, but the DMV thought it was representative of drugs and marijuana. Another application for “BILLSMFA” was also rejected because the DMV thought “MFA sounds and looks like mafia; a gang.”

Some other rejected personalized license plate requests were “WHYYYY” and “ZZZZZZ” because they could cause confusion for law enforcement, and “BADAB” because the DMV considered it profane.

One driver wanted to put “POO BUG” on their personalized license plate, in reference to a brown 1968 Volkswagen Bug. However, the DMV rejected this application because “poo” was considered obscene.

Thankfully, some personalized license plate requests that were originally questioned such as “69DROP,” “MORB1D,” “BEEFYB,” “TOPD,” and “RNECK” were eventually approved.
