RNC resolutions aim to maintain neutrality and restrict Trump’s fund access: Report
Republican National Committee Considers Resolutions to Limit Support for Trump
Proposed Resolutions Aim to Keep RNC Neutral and Restrict Funding for Trump’s Legal Fees
Two resolutions reportedly being proposed by Republican National Committeeman Henry Barbour would prevent funds from being used for former President Donald Trump’s legal fees, along with keeping the RNC neutral throughout the primary.
The pair of resolutions come ahead of the RNC’s meeting next month, where a new slate of Trump-backed candidates is expected to be elected to lead the committee. One of the two resolutions, both obtained by the Dispatch, would recommit the RNC to neutrality until a candidate has amassed the necessary 1,215 required delegates and would prevent current campaign staff from joining RNC leadership until a candidate has reached the threshold.
“RESOLVED, That the Republican National Committee and its leadership will stay neutral throughout the Presidential primary and not take on additional staff from any of the active Presidential campaigns until a nominee is clearly determined by reaching 1,215 delegates,” the draft resolution said, per the outlet.
Trump’s slate of endorsements for RNC leadership includes his co-campaign manager Chris LaCivita, who the former president has endorsed to be the committee’s COO. The other picks by Trump include North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Michael Whatley for chairman and his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, for co-chairwoman.
The other resolution obtained by the Dispatch would affirm that the RNC “will not pay the legal bills of any of our candidates for any federal or state office, but will focus our spending on efforts directly related to the 2024 election cycle.”
In response to the “absurd” proposals, LaCivita declared Saturday that the primary was “over” and argued efforts to delay defeating President Joe Biden and working to win in November would assist the “destruction of our nation.”
“The primary is over, and it is the RNC’s sole responsibility to defeat Joe Biden and win back the White House. Efforts to delay that assist Joe Biden in the destruction of our nation. Republicans cannot stand on the sidelines and allow this to happen,” LaCivita said in a statement.
LaCivita said on Friday to NBC News that the RNC would not use funds to pay for Trump’s legal fees.

The RNC’s next meeting is scheduled for March 7-9. McDaniel has not announced her intention to resign, but rumors have suggested she may step down after the GOP’s South Carolina presidential primary — which happened on Saturday.
The Washington Examiner reached out to the RNC and Barbour for comment.
How does the first resolution aim to uphold fairness and impartiality within the Republican National Committee during the presidential primary process?
>,” the first resolution reads, “that the Republican National Committee hereby commits to remaining neutral in the presidential primary process unless and until a candidate has secured the necessary 1,215 delegates to win the nomination on the first ballot at the national convention.”
This resolution is seen as an attempt to maintain fairness and impartiality within the RNC, ensuring that the party does not endorse any particular candidate before the primary process has been completed. It aims to uphold the democratic principles of the Republican Party by allowing all presidential hopefuls to compete on an equal playing field.
The second resolution focuses on financial matters, specifically restricting the use of RNC funds for Donald Trump’s legal fees. After his presidency, Trump has faced numerous legal challenges, including impeachment trials, ongoing investigations, and civil suits. Some argue that it is not the responsibility of the RNC to financially support these legal battles.
While the RNC has previously covered legal expenses for its candidates, including former presidents, there is a growing sentiment within the committee that it is time to change this practice. Supporters of the resolution believe that the RNC should prioritize its resources towards party-building activities and supporting candidates who align with its values, rather than shouldering the burden of legal expenses.
Nevertheless, the resolutions are not without their critics. Some argue that the RNC should continue to back Trump, as he remains a popular figure within the Republican Party and retains a significant base of support. They believe that restricting financial support for Trump’s legal battles could be seen as turning their backs on a former president and hindering party unity.
However, proponents of the resolutions argue that it is crucial for the RNC to maintain neutrality and focus on the party’s long-term goals. They believe that by staying neutral and not favoring any particular candidate, the RNC can maintain its credibility and reputation as a fair and democratic institution.
The upcoming RNC meeting will play a crucial role in determining the direction of the Republican Party and its relationship with Donald Trump. Whether these resolutions gain sufficient support and are ultimately passed will have significant implications for the party’s future. The debate over these resolutions highlights the ongoing divisions within the Republican Party and the challenges it faces in finding a balance between loyalty to its past leaders and charting a new course for the future.
