Mark Warner,citing a “serious family health matter” that requires him to remain in Virginia. Reeves said, after prayerful reflection, that his faith and family come frist and that he will instead seek reelection to represent the 28th District in the state Senate. His exit, posted on X, leaves Republicans without a prominent challenger to Warner, who is running for a fourth term, and comes amid broader party setbacks in Virginia after recent midyear losses. Reeves also called on fellow Republicans to stop infighting, regroup, and unite behind principled leadership.

Virginia Republican state Sen. Bryce Reeves has dropped out of the 2026 race for Sen. Mark Warner‘s (D-VA) seat, citing a “serious family health matter” that requires him to remain in the Commonwealth.
“Today, after prayerful reflection and conversations with my family, I am withdrawing from the U.S. Senate race. A serious family health matter and the realities of timing require my full attention at home. My faith and my family come first,” Reeves posted on X Sunday.
He will instead seek reelection to the state Senate, where he represents the 28th District.
“My work continues in the General Assembly to protect our AAA bond rating, strengthen our economy, and ensure Virginia remains the best place in America for our military and veterans,” he added.
Reeves bowing out of the race leaves the Republican Party without a strong challenger to Warner, who is running for a fourth term.

But the GOP is also facing electoral problems in Virginia after widespread losses in the midyear elections in November.
In his statement, Reeves acknowledged as much, urging his colleagues to “stop the infighting, regroup, and unite behind principled leadership worthy of our cause.”
