REPORT: Justice Stephen Breyer To Retire

Associate Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will retire at the end of the Court’s current term, NBC News reported Wednesday.

Breyer, who is 83 years old, was appointed to the Court by President Bill Clinton in 1994, according to the outlet. He is the longest-serving member of the Court’s liberal bloc, and the second-longest serving member after Associate Justice Clarence Thomas.

Breyer is one of three liberal-leaning justices on the court, along with Justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor. Justice Amy Coney Barrett is the most recent addition to the Supreme Court after the death of Justice Rith Bader Ginsburg in September 2020.

Breyer has repeatedly spoken out against court-packing.

“What goes around comes around,” he said. “And if the Democrats can do it, then the Republicans can do it.”

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
