Rep. Vern Buchanan Tests Positive For COVID-19 Despite Being Fully Vaccinated

Republican Florida Rep. Vern Buchanan announced Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated.

Buchanan’s office released a statement saying the congressman has been experiencing mild flu-like symptoms and is in quarantine. They also said he has been vaccinated since it was made available to him earlier in the year.

“I look forward to returning to work as soon as possible,” Buchanan said in the statement. “In the meantime, this should serve as a reminder that although the vaccines provide a very high-degree of protection, we must remain vigilant in the fight against COVID-19.” (RELATED: More Texas Democrats Who Fled State Test Positive For COVID)

The news comes after several of the Texas Democrats who fled the state to hold up voting legislation tested positive Saturday for COVID-19. At least five members of the Democratic delegation tested positive for the virus, a person familiar told The Associated Press. All of them had been fully vaccinated.
