Rep. Claudia Tenney cautions that the border ‘invasion’ is not limited to the South, as the North remains open and vulnerable

Rep. Claudia‌ Tenney Raises Concerns About Weaknesses at US-Canadian Border

Rep. Claudia Tenney⁢ (R-NY) has sounded the⁣ alarm about vulnerabilities at the United States-Canadian border as a surge‌ of immigrants enter the country. In an appearance on Fox Report with Jon Scott, Tenney shared her firsthand experiences from visiting U.S. Border‍ Patrol agents stationed along the northern border. Known for her commitment to border security, Tenney has even sponsored bills in the House aimed at reducing the salary of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“The Border Patrol described that⁢ their resources are low,” Tenney revealed. “Many of them have been reassigned to the southern‌ border, leaving us exposed and vulnerable in the north.”

While the⁣ majority of⁤ immigrants enter the country through the southern border, fiscal⁣ year 2023 saw a significant increase in arrests at the northern‌ border. In fact, agents apprehended 10,021 individuals, a staggering 11 times more than the previous year.

“We’re deeply concerned about this situation in New York,” Tenney emphasized. “A‍ striking ⁢85% of individuals on the terror watch list are entering through our insecure northern border. We cannot allow this invasion to continue, as it poses a grave threat to our national security and ‌places a heavy burden ‌on ⁤taxpayers.”

Tenney ⁤estimates that⁤ New Yorkers ⁣could end up paying around three billion dollars in taxes to support illegal immigrants ‌in the coming year. This includes those crossing through⁣ the northern border, as well as the 37,500 migrants that ⁣Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) has sent to New York City since August 2022.

Since President Biden took office, over 10 million immigrants have reportedly entered the ⁣country illegally, marking a record high for any administration within such a short period of time.

How does the lack of adequate staffing and resources at the US-Canadian border⁤ impact both border security ⁣and immigration‌ control?

Enney, a Republican from ⁢New York, has recently raised concerns about weaknesses at the‌ US-Canadian border. As a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, Tenney’s concerns have garnered attention ⁣and opened up a discussion about the challenges faced at this often overlooked border.

The US-Canadian border is the world’s longest international border, stretching over 8,891 ⁤kilometers (5,525 miles). However, it does not ⁢receive as much scrutiny or attention as ⁤the border with Mexico. This lack of attention has, according to Tenney, created vulnerabilities that could ‍potentially be exploited by those‌ who wish to do⁤ harm⁤ to the United States.

One of the main concerns highlighted by‌ Tenney is the lack of adequate staffing and resources at the US-Canadian border. With less⁣ focus ‍on this ⁢particular border,‌ there have been significant gaps in manpower and technology. ‌This has implications for both border security and immigration control, as ‌it becomes easier for ‍individuals to ‍cross the border undetected.

Additionally, Tenney has stressed ⁤the importance of coordination and information sharing between the US and Canada in addressing border security issues. The US and Canada have a long history of cooperation and collaboration on a range of issues, including⁢ security. However, Tenney⁢ argues‍ that more can be done to enhance this cooperation and ensure that both countries are‍ effectively addressing shared security ‍concerns.

Furthermore, Tenney has also highlighted ⁤the need for‌ greater investment in border infrastructure and technology. Upgrading and modernizing border checkpoints and surveillance systems can significantly enhance border security and facilitate the ⁤movement of goods and people in and out of the country.

In recent months, concerns about drug trafficking across the US-Canadian border have also gained attention. Tenney has expressed ‌her worries about the increasing flow of⁢ illegal drugs, particularly opioids, into the United‌ States from Canada. ‌This illicit trade poses a ⁣significant threat to public health and safety ‍and requires robust efforts to combat it.

While raising these concerns, Tenney has‌ emphasized the importance of striking a balance between security and facilitating legitimate trade and travel. The US and Canada share a significant economic ⁣relationship, with billions of dollars’ worth of goods and services crossing the border each year. ‍The challenge is to ensure that security measures do not hinder the flow of legitimate trade and travel, which is crucial for the prosperity of both nations.

In conclusion, Rep. Claudia Tenney’s concerns about weaknesses at the US-Canadian border have shed light on ⁤an often overlooked area of border security. ⁣The challenges faced at this border, including inadequate staffing, gaps ‌in technology, and drug trafficking, necessitate⁢ a comprehensive approach to address the vulnerabilities. Enhancing coordination between the US and Canada, investing in infrastructure and technology, and striking a balance between security and facilitating legitimate⁢ trade and travel are vital steps in ensuring the security of both nations.
