Rep. Angie Craig maintains commanding lead in competitive race following impressive fundraising success.
Rep. Angie Craig Outraises Republican Challengers in Bid for Fourth Term
Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) is proving to be a formidable force in the upcoming 2024 election as she outraises her Republican colleagues vying to unseat her from the House swing seat.
Running for reelection to secure a fourth term, Craig’s fundraising efforts have been impressive. From April to the end of June, she brought in over $840,000, leaving her with a substantial cash on hand of more than $1.1 million.
“History shows that most support for Republicans running against me will come from large super PACs — not the candidates themselves,” Craig stated. “MAGA Republican super PACs spent $13.5 million against me in 2022 and seem poised to do so again. But I’ve never been one to back down from a fight. We will be ready for 2024.”
The Cook Political Report has listed Craig’s seat as likely Democratic, but that hasn’t deterred two GOP candidates from stepping up to challenge her and potentially give House Republicans a larger majority. However, their fundraising efforts have fallen short compared to Craig’s.
Criminal defense lawyer Tayler Rahm, who entered the race just a month before the fundraising period ended, managed to bring in just under $51,500. His campaign currently has approximately $34,000 in cash, according to campaign filings.
“Tayler is a brand-new candidate to the field. He’s only had 30 days, but he certainly showed that he’s got moxie and momentum,” said Rahm’s campaign manager Jill Vujovich-Laabs.
The other GOP candidate, Mike Murphy, former mayor of Lexington, Minnesota, has faced difficulties in raising funds despite entering the race early on. From April to June, Murphy’s fundraising efforts yielded less than $4,000.
Rep. Angie Craig’s seat is one of the 37 Democratic seats targeted by the National Republican Congressional Committee in 2024. The committee released a list in March, highlighting 35 incumbents and two open seats as part of the House GOP’s offensive strategy for this cycle.
Among the targeted seats were some of the top Democratic spenders in the midterm elections, with Craig’s race ranking fourth, attracting over $20 million in spending from outside groups.
