Record Number Of Americans Consider Themselves To Be ‘Thriving’ After A Year Of COVID-19: Poll

A record number of Americans see their lives drastically improving after a year of coronavirus, a Wednesday Gallup report found.

A record-breaking 59.2% of Americans surveyed said they considered themselves as “thriving,” compared to the second-highest, 57.3%, in September 2017, according to a Gallup poll.

Gallup classified Americans as “thriving,” “struggling” or “suffering” based on a ladder scale numbered from 0 to 10.

Only 38% of Americans surveyed said they stressed and worried a lot yesterday, the poll said. In comparison, 60% of people surveyed in March 2020 had daily stress and 58% worried when there were several importations of the virus from Europe, Asia and elsewhere.

Only 46.4%, the lowest percentage ever recorded, of Americans surveyed said in the poll they were flourishing in April 2020. During that period, the U.S. hit over 50,000 coronavirus deaths with 869,000 confirmed cases.

In June, 3.4% of respondents were classified as suffering, people who choose 4 or below, despite there being a pandemic, according to the poll. This comes as nearly 40% of small businesses have closed since the first COVID-19 case in the U.S. (RELATED: Poll: Most Americans Expect Life To Return To Normal By End Of 2021 Or Later)

Only 6% of small businesses that were negatively impacted by the coronavirus have fully recovered their losses, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported.

The poll was conducted from June 14-20 and surveyed 4,820 U.S. adults. The margin of error for the poll is plus or minus 2.0 percentage points.
