Gran Turismo driver explains desire for fatal crash scene in movie: “It’s a part of my story.”
Professional racing driver Jann Mardenborough believes that the upcoming “Gran Turismo” movie should include the tragic 2015 crash that took the life of a spectator in Germany.
“Gran Turismo,” set to hit theaters on August 25, tells the true story of how Mardenborough, portrayed by Archie Madekwe, used his skills from playing the popular video game to launch a crash scene in movie: “It’s a part of my story.””>successful racing career in real life.
The movie will include the tragic accident that occurred during the VLN Endurance Championship. Mardenborough’s car flew through the air and crashed through a fence, resulting in injuries to several spectators and the loss of one life, as reported by People Magazine.
In an interview with Driving.co.uk, Mardenborough expressed his support for including the fatal crash in the movie, stating that it would be a disservice to the audience to leave it out.
“It’s my life. It’s part of my story,” said the pro racing star. “I made sure that the production accurately portrayed what happened because someone lost their life in this accident. And the movie does a great job of that.”
Mardenborough also emphasized the importance of showcasing the dark moments he experienced while in the hospital, highlighting the mental aspects of such an event and how one can overcome adversity and achieve greatness. He firmly believes that these elements needed to be included in the film.
During an appearance on the radio show “The Breakfast Club,” Mardenborough discussed the inclusion of the crash scene in “Gran Turismo,” stating that it accurately depicts what happened.
“When I was asked to participate in the movie, it would have been easier to say no and exclude that part,” he explained. “But by doing so, I would be doing a disservice to everyone else because it would compromise the truth of the storyline.”
Mardenborough expressed his satisfaction with how the Nurburgring racing complex scene was portrayed, emphasizing the importance of accuracy and acknowledging the darkness surrounding the accident and its aftermath.
