Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) suggested Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) doesn’t like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu due to Israel’s fight against “Muslim terrorists.”
Omar opposed Netanyahu’s third meeting with President Donald Trump since he took office. The meeting was centered on Gaza, where Israel has fought with Hamas for nearly three years.
“War criminals should not be welcomed by any president or Congress,” Omar said on X, referring to Netanyahu. “He should be held accountable for his crimes, not platformed. Beyond shameful.”
The International Criminal Court of Justice issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu over alleged war crimes, which was condemned by the Trump administration and other Republican allies.
Fine, a Jewish freshman representative among the allies defending Netanyahu, responded to Omar’s post.
“I’m sure it is difficult to see us welcome the killer of so many of your fellow Muslim terrorists,” Fine said. “The only shame is that you serve in Congress.”
The Washington Examiner reached out to Omar’s office for comment.
“Randy Fine is a dangerous, hateful man, whose only purpose in Congress thus far has been advocating for nuking Gaza, celebrating the death of children, and calling anyone who disagrees with his genocidal mindset a terrorist,” the spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.
“Congress has never had a more open Islamophobe, who constantly threatens and invites violence against his Muslim colleagues and Muslims in general. It should shock everyone that he hasn’t been condemned by leadership on either side of the aisle,” the spokesperson added.
Netanyahu met Trump on Monday and Tuesday over Israel’s conflict with Hamas. Trump said his second invite came as an attempt to establish peace in Gaza, where a majority of the fighting has transpired.
“Gaza is a tragedy,” Trump said. “It’s a tragedy, and he [Netanyahu] wants to get it solved, and I want to get it solved, and I think the other side wants to get it solved.”
