Newsom ridicules parental groups protesting LBGT agenda as ‘profoundly ignorant’.
California Governor Gavin Newsom Mocks Parents Protesting LGBT Curriculum
In a recent event held in Sacramento County, California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom addressed the concerns raised by parents protesting against the implementation of LGBT issues in their children’s curriculum. However, instead of empathizing with their worries, Newsom chose to mock their rhetoric, labeling it as “profoundly ignorant.”
Newsom’s speech aimed to highlight California’s family agenda, focusing on efforts to enrich and empower kids and parents in schools. He emphasized the importance of parental engagement in the LCAP process, citing the example of Temecula, California, where 1,300 families actively participated in the development of the curriculum. According to Newsom, 98.8 percent of these families supported or were indifferent to the curriculum, leaving him puzzled about the concerns raised by protesting parents.
Challenging the parents’ claims, Newsom questioned whether mentioning someone’s sexual orientation, such as being gay, automatically equates to sexualizing children. He argued that if mentioning straight people doesn’t have the same effect, then it shouldn’t be a concern when discussing LGBTQ+ topics. Newsom assumed that his viewpoint would be widely agreed upon, stating, “It’s rather perverse that I offer that as a rhetorical question because you go, ‘Of course not.'”
Continuing his criticism, Newsom dismissed the coalition of parental rights activists as being misled by outside agitators. He described their assertions as either Orwellian doublespeak or profoundly ignorant, suggesting that organized groups had manipulated these parents. Newsom expressed empathy towards these parents, acknowledging their misguided beliefs.
Parental Rights Activists Criticize Legislation
Among the bills that have drawn criticism from parental rights groups is AB 1078, which would mandate the inclusion of “diversity” curriculum and make it more challenging for school boards to ban inappropriate books. The activists also called for parental notification if children seek to change their pronouns or names at school.
