Pritzker positions himself for 2028 presidential run with New Hampshire fundraiser

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is headlining a significant Democratic fundraiser in New Hampshire, aiming to boost his national profile amid speculation about a potential presidential run in 2028. His keynote address at the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s McIntyre-Shaheen 100 Club dinner will focus on combating rising authoritarianism. This event is particularly critical as New Hampshire is the first primary state, crucial for generating momentum towards Super Tuesday. Pritzker, currently in his second term as governor, has not yet disclosed his intentions for the 2026 gubernatorial election. His endorsement of Lt. Gov. juliana stratton, who is running for the Senate, further positions him within the party’s dynamics as he gathers support for his future political ambitions.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) is headlining a major Democratic fundraiser in New Hampshire on Sunday.

The event comes as Pritzker builds his national profile and rumors swirl that he will announce a run for president in 2028. At the fundraiser on Sunday, Pritzker will “address rising authoritarianism and the need for Democrats to fight back,” according to a statement from his spokeswoman, Jordan Abudayyeh.

Pritzker has given several high-profile speeches in recent months, but his keynote address at the New Hampshire Democratic Party’s McIntyre-Shaheen 100 Club dinner this week could be one of his most important as it pertains to presidential ambitions.

After the Iowa Caucus, New Hampshire is the first primary for a presidential candidate. The Granite State is an important place for a candidate to win for their campaign to gain momentum going into Super Tuesday.

Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), who went on to become the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2024, was last year’s featured speaker at the McIntyre-Shaheen 100 Club dinner.
