President Biden’s brother, Frank, says that President Biden is receptive to the potential of psychedelics for medical purposes.
President Joe Biden Open to Psychedelic Drugs in Medical Treatment, Says Brother
President Joe Biden is “very open-minded” to psychedelic drugs being used in medical treatment, according to his brother, Frank Biden. In a recent interview on Michael Smerconish’s SirusXM show, Frank Biden discussed promising research on microdosing substances like ketamine and LSD to combat addiction.
Frank Biden, who identifies as a recovering alcoholic, revealed that he has personally discussed the issue with his brother, but emphasized that these conversations were private.

“He is very open-minded — put it that way,” said Frank Biden about the president. “I don’t want to speak, I’m talking brother-to-brother.”
According to NBC News, the federal government has long considered psychedelic drugs to lack an “accepted medical use,” but there has been a recent shift in perspective. States like Oregon and Colorado have already voted to decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms, and the Food and Drug Administration has issued draft guidance on clinical trials with psychedelic drugs.
Notably, several members of the Biden family, including Frank and the president’s son, Hunter, have struggled with addiction and sought treatment. Joe Biden himself is known to be a teetotaler, abstaining from alcohol.
Frank Biden, a non-attorney senior adviser for the Florida-based Berman Law Group, called into the show after Smerconish spoke with a Wall Street Journal reporter about how psychedelics “power” Silicon Valley. Reflecting on private discussions with his brother, Frank Biden expressed his belief that embracing psychedelic drugs as a form of medical treatment could lead to a greater awareness of unity and help address addiction and other societal issues.
