Law enforcement officials in southern California have launched an investigation into the death of a pro-Israel protester. The incident occurred during a clash between pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian rallies in Thousand Oaks.
Suspect Identified
Ventura County Sheriff Jim Fryhoff revealed that a 50-year-old suspect, who was part of the pro-Palestinian group, has been identified. The altercation resulted in the victim, 69-year-old Paul Kessler, falling backward and hitting his head on the ground.
Search Warrant Executed
The Major Crimes Bureau (MCB) obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and detained the suspect until the completion of the search warrant. The suspect was later released. A search was also conducted at the suspect’s residence in Moorpark.
Cause of Death
Dr. Christopher Young, the chief medical examiner for Ventura County, stated that Kessler suffered intracranial injuries, including brain swelling and hemorrhage. The autopsy revealed non-lethal injuries to the victim’s face, consistent with a fall. However, injuries to the front of his face indicated a separate blow.

The cause of death has been certified as blunt force head trauma, and the manner of death is classified as homicide. This designation indicates that another person’s actions contributed to the victim’s death.
