The person of interest in the mass shooting at Brown University has been identified as a 24-year-old man from Wisconsin, according to multiple reports.
Benjamin Erickson was detained in connection to the deadly shooting early Sunday, law enforcement officials told the Washington Post. Federal agents previously located Erickson at a hotel roughly 20 miles away from Providence, Rhode Island, where Brown’s campus is located.
While Erickson has not been named the suspect, Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez said earlier Sunday that they are confident he is the gunman and charges could be filed soon.
According to NBC News, Erickson served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army from May 2021 to November 2024, but was never deployed. While hailing from Wisconsin, he reportedly had an apartment in Washington, D.C.
