PA Republicans attempt to change Trump’s stance on mail-in voting
Pennsylvania Republicans Embrace Mail-In Voting Despite Trump’s Opposition
Republicans in Pennsylvania are defying former President Donald Trump’s stance on mail-in voting and are now looking to fully embrace the practice. Concerns have been growing within the party over Democrats’ ability to secure more votes through mail-in ballots, which played a significant role in the 2020 presidential election. While Trump and some Republicans have sought to restrict mail-in voting due to fears of fraud, others are now leading the charge to adopt it more widely.
According to Republican officials, an educational campaign is being organized to encourage more Republicans to utilize mail-in voting. The goal is to raise $8 million for this initiative. Dave White, a Republican involved in organizing the campaign, emphasized the importance of not allowing Democrats to maintain an advantage in this area if Republicans want to secure victories.
Despite Trump’s reservations about mail-in voting, the effort is not being carried out without his knowledge. Jim Worthington, a business owner and a prominent Trump ally, is actively involved in the push and has personally discussed the matter with Trump. Worthington believes that if Trump endorses mail-in ballots, 75% of Republicans in the state will follow suit. He has received assurances that Trump and his team will indeed embrace mail-in voting.
Representative Dan Meuser, a member of Trump’s Pennsylvania leadership team, is also playing a significant role in this project.
Mail-in ballots played a crucial role in President Joe Biden’s victory in Pennsylvania in 2020. Biden received 1,995,691 mail-in ballots compared to Trump’s 595,538, ultimately winning the state by a narrow margin of just 2%.
