Local schools in Pennsylvania remain closed as the manhunt for an escaped murderer enters its second week.
The Hunt for Escaped Convicted Murderer Danelo Cavalcante Continues
The search for escaped convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante in southeastern Pennsylvania moved into its seventh day on Wednesday after he managed to escape from the Chester County Prison last week.
Cavalcante, a 34-year-old Brazilian national, was recently convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his former girlfriend Deborah Brandao. Just last week, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. It is worth noting that he is also wanted in Brazil for separate murder charges.
Impact on the Local Community
The manhunt for Cavalcante has had significant repercussions in the area. The Kennett Consolidated School District closed its schools on Tuesday and extended the closure into Wednesday. Additionally, Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, was closed on Wednesday due to the ongoing search.
On Tuesday, Pennsylvania State Police released images captured by a trail camera in Longwood Gardens on Monday night, showing Cavalcante in the area. Longwood Gardens officials discovered the footage at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday and promptly shared it with the authorities.
“Late Monday night, images of the escaped convict were captured on trail cameras on Longwood property. The images were shared with PA State Police immediately after the footage was viewed at around 3:30 am on Tuesday, September 5. PA State Police are actively searching on the property. We will continue to work with authorities and law enforcement as the search continues,” Longwood Gardens said in a statement.
The sighting of Cavalcante at the botanical gardens prompted officials to expand the search area to a 2-mile radius on Tuesday.
Intensive Search Efforts
Approximately 200 members of law enforcement, according to CNN, are tirelessly searching for Cavalcante. The authorities have vowed to provide an update on the active search at 3 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.
As the community remains on high alert, the search for Danelo Cavalcante continues, with hopes of bringing this dangerous fugitive to justice.
