Former Vice President Mike Pence diminished President Donald Trump’s influence on the Republican Party.

Pence appeared for a Thursday interview with CNN host Kate Bolduan on CNN News Central to offer his assessment of the accomplishments of the second Trump administration. Bolduan asked Pence if he thought the “MAGA element” of the Republican Party would die once Trump leaves office.

“Well, I think President Trump, as presidents should, has changed aspects of the agenda of the Republican Party, but I don‘t think he‘s changed the Republican Party,” Pence said.

Pence has traveled the country to promote his book, Go Home for Dinner, that he released shortly after dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. The former vice president claimed that during his travels, Republican voters shared an enduring commitment to “fiscal responsibility, pro-growth policies, the right to life, and traditional values,” among other traditionally conservative points.

Despite his campaign to compete against Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, Pence has approved of some of Trump’s actions so far.

MIKE PENCE SUGGESTS TRUMP CHANGE COURSE ON FOREIGN RELATIONS

For example, Pence lauded Trump for the “decisive action” to strike Iran’s Fordow fuel enrichment plant, as well as the Natanz and Isfahan nuclear facilities last month. According to Pence, it is a “long-standing policy” to keep Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

However, Pence called for Trump to do more for Ukraine as, according to Pence, Russian President Vladimir Putin “doesn’t want peace.” Pence suggested during the television interview that Trump issue further sanctions against Russia to bring its war with Ukraine to an end.
