FBI Director Kash Patel on Saturday denied rumors of his imminent departure from the bureau over his reported dissatisfaction with the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
“The conspiracy theories just aren’t true, never have been,” he posted on X. “It’s an honor to serve the President of the United States [Donald Trump] — and I’ll continue to do so for as long as he calls on me.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi has faced scrutiny over the Justice Department’s conclusion that Epstein’s client list doesn’t exist and that the late financier and sex trafficker committed suicide in prison.
The fallout from the Epstein files flop led to media reports indicating Patel and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino were planning to resign amid their purported feud with Bondi.
Patel’s statement suggests no such feud exists. However, the situation may be different in private.
Bongino skipped work on Friday due to his frustration with the Justice Department, a source familiar with the matter previously told the Washington Examiner. His absence led to speculation that he may be resigning. Unlike Patel, Bongino has not publicly commented on the situation.
The FBI deputy director argued with White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and Bondi during a heated meeting about the Epstein case, Fox News reported Saturday morning. After leaving the meeting, he considered resigning.
Patel is reportedly pleased with the job, according to Fox.
