Rep. Pat Fallon (R-TX) slammed Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) for engaging in “hyperbolic fearmongering” regarding his comments on Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
Walz, who testified before the House Committee on Oversight and Reform on Thursday, said in a recent address to University of Minnesota Law School graduates that ICE agents are “Donald Trump’s modern-day Gestapo.”
On Fox News’s America’s Newsroom, Fallon said, “This is something I would point out to the governor. In the state of Texas, in the last 13 years, there have been 299,000 illegal immigrants arrested and charged with 513,000 crimes that resulted in 187,000 convictions. Gestapo? No, these are criminals who ironically prey most overwhelmingly on people of color. You know what Walz should be concerned about? The protection of his citizens, because if you’re not safe, then you’re not free. That fires me up.”
Walz appeared alongside Govs. JB Pritzker (D-IL) and Kathy Hochul (D-NY). The panel of governors defended their sanctuary policies regarding illegal immigrants. All three governors will be up for reelection next year.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) began the questioning, asking Walz about his “Gestapo” comment first. Walz responded by disapproving of violence against ICE agents.

Meanwhile, Fallon has for years advocated narrowing the exceptions for asylum-seekers in the United States.
The Center for Immigration Studies estimated that as of January, some 15.8 million illegal immigrants live in the U.S., a little less than a third of the country’s foreign-born population. Meanwhile, about 5.4 million illegal immigrants entered the U.S. while former President Joe Biden was in office.
