Parents withdraw daughters from sports team due to transgender athlete controversy.
Parents Begin Pulling Daughters from Sports Team After What Began Appearing on Their Bodies – Transgender Athlete Blamed
A group of parents at a Wisconsin high school is blasting their school district for allowing a male student to play as a girl this year, fearing that he will endanger their daughters’ safety. Some parents are even warning that their daughters will not participate in the sport due to these concerns.
The parents of three girls are adamant that their daughters will not play this coming year if the district allows the boy to play on the girls’ team. Critics argue that officials are putting the girls in physical danger and taking away opportunities from real girls by allowing a boy to play as a girl.
“They’re just not used to the ball coming at them that hard,” said parent Ryan Gusick, expressing his concern for the girls’ safety. “A lot of these girls are specifically quitting this team because they’re concerned for their safety.”
Mother Heather Longlais added that the boy is far more powerful than the girls on the team, making it an unfair competition, according to WLUK-TV.
“There’s a lot of concern from a fair amount of the girls about that situation in itself,” Gusick added, referring to the boy potentially exposing his male genitalia in the girls’ locker room.
Despite these concerns, the district claims that any decision regarding the transgender student’s participation will be made in accordance with federal Title IX rules. The district also points out that the state allows transgender athletes.
However, the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association’s transgender policy acknowledges the physical advantages that biological males or androgen-supplemented biological females may have over biological females. The policy states that any biological boy must have one calendar year of medically documented testosterone suppression therapy to be eligible to participate on a female team.
While some local residents support the boy’s inclusion on the girls’ team, others share the concerns raised by the parents. Despite a recent meeting where parents were told they won’t have a choice in the matter, Ryan Gusick remains certain that his daughter will not play for the school in the coming year due to safety concerns.
This issue continues to be a hot-button topic, as pro sports leagues are increasingly recognizing the unfairness of allowing men claiming to be women to compete against women. Several sports organizations have implemented bans or restrictions on transgender athletes competing as women.
As our schools grapple with this issue, it is important for them to take notice of the actions being taken by real sports organizations to protect the integrity of women’s sports. The well-being and safety of our children should always be the top priority.
