One person killed in small plane crash and capsizing in Massachusetts river

Authorities scrambled to respond after a single-engine aircraft crashed into the Merrimack River around Lawrence, Massachusetts, on Monday, leading to one death.
Only the pilot was believed to be on board at the time of the crash, which caused the plane to flip over in the water.
“A single-engine Van’s RV-6A crashed into the Merrimack River in Lawrence, Massachusetts, around 2:15 p.m. local time on Monday, June 17,” the agency told the Washington Examiner in a statement. “Only the pilot was on board. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide any updates.”

The FAA said that it would release a preliminary accident/incident report on Tuesday.
Authorities told Boston 25 News that the aircraft crashed near an Amazon facility and that firefighters from the North Andover Fire Department rushed to the scene. Five boats and divers from the Massachusetts State Police were reportedly called in to assist.
