One officer dead after shooting at Emory University
A police officer was killed after responding to an active shooter incident at Emory University’s Atlanta campus in Georgia. The shooting occurred near a CVS around 5:30 p.m.Eastern time. the unidentified shooter was also killed by law enforcement. Authorities confirmed there is no longer an ongoing threat, but people were advised to avoid the area while investigations continue. Emory University issued an alert instructing people to “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT” and to shelter in place. The nearby Centers for Disease Control (CDC) also warned employees to take shelter. the FBI joined in the response. Georgia governor Brian Kemp expressed gratitude to first responders and noted it was the second mass shooting in the state within the week, urging the public to keep those affected and the responders in their prayers.

One officer has died after responding to an active shooter situation at Emory University’s Atlanta campus in Georgia on Friday.
Police responded to an active shooter near the local CVS at around 5:30 p.m. Eastern time. The shooter, who has not yet been identified, was also killed, according to Atlanta police. There is no longer an “ongoing threat,” but people were told to avoid the crime scene as the investigation unfolds.
Emory University’s Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response sent a message on Friday evening warning of an active shooter.
“RUN, HIDE, FIGHT. Avoid the area. Shelter in place,” the alert said.
The university is less than a mile from the Centers for Disease Control headquarters, and the CDC sent out an alert asking employees to take shelter.
The FBI sent agents to assist with the response.
Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA) thanked the first responders who rushed to the scene. He noted that it was the second mass shooting that week in Georgia, the previous one targeting an Army base.

“Twice this week, deranged criminals have targeted innocent Georgians. Each time, brave first responders rushed toward the danger to subdue the shooter and save lives, reminding us of just how crucial they are,” he said.
Kemp added that he and his family “are thankful for all those who answer the call to serve and who protect their fellow Georgians. We ask that you join us in holding them in our prayers, along with those harmed this evening near the CDC Center.”
